Get Rid Of Termites Under Your Roof Shingles

The wood materials are commonly employed in rendering a framework to the roofing architecture. Ranging from the trusses to the shingles, wood finds its place. Hence, wooden units represent the strength of your roof to a large extent. Like the other roofing segments, the wooden units too are susceptible to wear and tear. Furthermore, a possible termite-attack keeps haunting the wooden spread of the roofs. The areas underneath the roof shingles are prone to water or moisture accumulation and hence, such areas are susceptible to possible termite attacks.

First, you need to examine the roof and locate those areas which are prone to termite attack. You can use roofer's shovels to lift up the shingles to expose the hidden areas. The area underneath the shingles is susceptible to termite fury and requires appropriate measures to prevent such an attack.

Climb up to the roof and take a look at different parts of your roof. If you observe certain uneven patterns on your roof in the form of fecal pellets or small voids, then it could be one of the symptoms of termite existence. Some damaged or chewed portions of wood or shingles also lead to a possible conclusion. Also, a small spread of sawdust is one feature that proves the presence of termites around the concerned area.

Once you have exposed the affected area, make way for commercially available chemicals that remove termites from wooden segments. Read the manufacturer's guidelines on the chemical bottle to apply the solution in a right manner. Since the chemical solution is extremely toxic, follow proper precautions while applying it on the affected area. Use safety gloves and goggles to safeguard yourself.

The chemical would take some time to eliminate all the termites from the concerned area. After the application of the chemical, inspect the intensity of the damage and determine the wood shingles that need to be replaced.

Use pressure treated wood in place of regular wood. The pressure treated wood would prevent termite infestation in the future.

Install a new segment of roof as per the improved guidelines. Make sure that the new segment is fully prepared to fight against the fury of a possible termite attack.

Keep in mind the leaky areas of the roof as well. Termites often find such areas as susceptible for their growth.
